(NewsDakota.com) A citywide ordinance has been established in Oakes for use of snowmobiles within the city limits.

Any snowmobile traveling within the city must have a headlamp, a taillamp as well as brakes and a muffler all in working condition. 

Each snowmobile must also be registered. The fee to register is $40, and $15 for snowmobiles registered in another state. Anyone operating or riding who is under 18 must wear a helmet, and operators of any age must have a driver’s license or permit. 

When traveling through the city, they must use alleys, and stop before crossing any street. They must also travel in the same direction as normal traffic and cannot tow any type of sled, skid or other vehicle.
