(NewsDakota.com) The game of basketball is not always pretty; sometimes the game can be a outright dogfight. Such was the case at the Oakes High School gym on Thursday evening, as the boys teams from North Sargent and Oakes battled with a chance at their first District 1 victory of the year. In the end, it was the hometown kids coming out on top with a 54-49 victory.

This game went back and forth from the onset, and neither team had a lead larger than three possessions throughout the contest. The Bobcats foul troubles down the stretch allowed the Tornadoes to edge out the victory. Blake Hollingsworth’s two free throws with 7.8 seconds remaining sealed the deal.

Sophomore Tristan Meyer lead the way for Oakes (3-7 1-3 District 1) with 15 points; Stephan Quandt and Ethan Zetocha each had 10. North Sargent (1-9 0-4 District 1) was lead by junior Dawson Peterson with 30 points.

Next up for Oakes is a contest against Edgeley-Kulm-Montpeiler in Edgeley on Tuesday night as part of a doubleheader with the girls team.
