LAKE (NewsDakota.com) The Carrington Cardinals girls basketball team will be playing for the Lake Region Invitational Girls Basketball Tournament Championship against District seven opponent Lakota/Adams-Edmore Saturday, December 5th at 5:30p at the Devils Lake Sports Center. The Cards beat North Star by a last second shot 54-53 in Friday nights semi-final round. Carrington improves to 3-2 overall, North Star drops to 3-2.
Here are day two results from the Tourney:
Drayton/Valley Edinburg 52 Dakota Prairie 21
Munich/Starkweather 60 Four Winds/Minnewauken 38
Lakota/Adams-Edmore 48 Devils Lake JV 31
Carrington 54 North Star 53
The last game on Friday night featured #2 seed North Star Bearcats up against #3 seed Carrington. The Region four Bearcats dominated the first half and most of the third quarter, but then Carrington got some quick points in transition sparked by Senior Guard Josey Page and Senior Center Breana Barton. The fourth quarter had a lot of lead changes and came down to the final seconds. With North Star leading 53-52 and seven seconds left in the fourth, Page would take it on a fast break and find Junior Forward Kayla Hochhalter for the wide open layup putting Carrington up by one with a couple of seconds left. The Bearcats would get another shot off but it wouldn’t go in.
The Cards were led by Barton with 14, Page had 12 points including two 3-pointers. Hochhalter ended the game with nine points.
The Bearcats were led by Sophomore Forward Sarah Hagler with 17.
