CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City State basketball teams made their return home a good one, sweeping Minnesota-Morris Friday night in their first home games since Dec. 7.
The Viking men pulled away down the stretch for a 78-67 victory, and the women jumped on top early for a 65-39 win.
A 5-0 run by the Morris men gave them their first lead of the second half at 52-50 with 10 minutes to go, but the Vikings responded with a 10-0 run, fueled by two 3’s from Sekani Milligen.
Milligen finished with 17 points to lead all scorers. Aaron Duske scored 13 and John Raquel posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for VCSU. RJ Dean led Morris with 12 points.
In the women’s game, all 12 VCSU players scored in the first half as they built a 34-16 lead at the half and coasted from there.
Brittany Lehner led VCSU with 11 points. Kelsey Hunter and Courtney Dixon each added eight in the balanced attack.
VCSU’s women improve to 12-2, and the men move to 11-4.
The Viking men play at Oglala College on Sunday night and then both the Viking men and women play at South Dakota School of Mines on Monday night.
