Lawrence Joseph Bassen was born on August 14, 1936 in Litchville, ND, the son of Stella (Mollner) and William Bassen, Sr. He attended Prairie Township school near Litchville and then Hanson Mechanical School in Fargo, ND.

     He worked for the Standard Station in Litchville for many years until a leg injury, in 1995, forced him out of work. Larry drove a road maintainer for LaMoure County for a time. He was the town cop in Litchville for several years. Most recently he had been driving the sports teams shuttle bus for the Litchville-Marion school district to LaMoure.

     Larry was well-known for his “Blue Ribbon Doughnuts,” so named for the blue ribbons he won for them at the North Dakota Winter Show in Valley City, ND.

     He died at Mercy Hospital in Valley City on January 1, 2013. Larry is survived by his brother, Bill (Wanda) Bassen of Litchville; sisters, Carole (Dennis) Klakken of Hanna, WY, Margaret (Dave) Foster of Bozeman, MT, and Pat (Wes) Limesand of Fargo, ND; a nephew; 5 nieces; and several great nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marvin; and a nephew, Dennis Klakken, Jr.

     The funeral service for Larry will be held at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.

     Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00p.m. at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel and will continue there an hour prior to the service Friday.
