Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a child of God, Arden H. Wolhart, age 88, passed on to his Heavenly home on Friday, December 21, 2012. He was surrounded by family members and had a very peaceful passing. He will be greatly missed.
Arden Hugh Wolhart was born on July 6, 1924, to Ted and Margaret (Gordon) Wolhart near Brainerd, MN. He was the middle child of five boys and had a younger sister. He grew up on a farm and headed west in the forties and stopped to rest in Valley City. He married a farmer’s daughter and eventually worked most of his life for the ND State Highway Department where he filled cracks, crushed rocks, and plowed snow. He lived most of his married life in a house his father built for him!
Arden loved to fish and had some good stories to tell about that. He had a good singing voice which has been passed down to his children. He sang in the Valley City Troubadours for many years. He sang at church and at the nursing home. Arden liked to help people. He liked to talk and never met a stranger. He liked to make things. He gardened, farmed for others, and did what he could in the church. As his hearing diminished, so did his involvement in things. He had many ailments and was strong in body throughout the physical fight, but on Friday of last week, it was time for him to go HOME!
Those that preceded Arden in death were his parents, his brothers, Vernon and Allen, and his son, Glenn.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Doris of Valley City; sons, Calvin (Jewel) of Jamestown, ND, Keith of Pacific Grove, CA, Neal (Heather) of Ft. Collins, CO; daughters, Nancy Wolhart of Fargo, ND and Arlene (Kevin) Knudson of Larimore, ND. His 11 grandchildren (David, Jonathan, Karol, Kalan, Kelly, Nicholas, Nathan, Nolan, Scott, Jennifer, and Steven) will be his pallbearers and there are 5 great grandchildren. He also is survived by his brothers, Roger and Ronald of Silver City, NM; his sister, Karol (Leo) Hines of Brainerd, MN; and his daughter-in-law, Becky Wolhart of Valley City.
The funeral service for Arden will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 29, 2012 at First Baptist Church, Valley City. Burial will be in the spring at Memory Gardens near Valley City.
Visitation will be at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
