(NewsDakota.com)- Head Coach Greg Ulland admitted after the game he was a bit nervous when he looked at the clock with about two minutes to go and his team was down five. However, over the next seven minutes the Jimmies outscored Briar Cliff 23-10 to win their 12th game, 84-76.
“Credit to our girls,” he said, “we kept battling and made some shots.”
The Jimmies turned it over 22 times in an up-and-down affair that often resembled a track meet. The teams traded punches with 13 lead changes in the first-half. Bridget Schuneman paced all scores with 11 at the break.
Amber Ramlo scored the Jimmies first basket of the second-half with a three and she was pretty much dominate the rest of the way. The Jamestown High grad had 17 points in the second half and pulled down 11 rebounds. Ramlo finished with a game-high 23.
A critical point came with just over a minute to go and Jamestown College pulled within one and forced a stop on the defensive end. Briar Cliff rebounded the loose ball, but BC’s Mattie Murren shot and missed a head-scratching three point attempt. The Jimmies rebounded the ball and immediately went down to take the lead.
In overtime, the Chargers scored first. The Jimmies scored the next eight including threes from Hannah Steele and Carly Jensen. Ramlo closed out the game with four free throws.
JC owned the glass pulling down 55 rebounds to the Chargers 33. Kayla Roemmich, along with Ramlo had a double-double, 14 points and 12 rebounds (seven of which were offensive).
Jamestown College improves to 12-1 on the season with their first win over a ranked team. Briar Cliff takes their third loss and falls to 12-3.
The Jimmies will travel to Las Vegas for games Friday and Saturday next week.
