(NewsDakota.com) Here are the unofficial minutes from the City Council meeting that was held on Monday, December 10th.
Local Carrington business owners have until December 31st to get their business license renewal application in to City Hall.
Fire Department Report:
11/14 Mutual aid fire with McHenry and Glenfield, 2 trucks responded along with 14 men.
11/16 Car accident on 7th Ave and 2nd St. South, extricated driver and passenger, 11 men responded
12/1 False alarm controlled burn, 12 men responded
Three men have started taking an on-line Fire Fighter I class put on by the James River Valley Fire Fighter Association. Fire Chief Ken Wangen hopes that more will join the on-line trianing and he also said that the fire department calls have settled down a lot compared with previous months.
Mayor Don Frye says that training our fire department is very important because of all the traffic Carrington has on Highways 281 & 200, including trucks with hazardous materials.
Finance & Legal
Met with the Fair Board about the noise complaints going on during some events held at the fair grounds, such as weddings and other events. Further meetings are required.
JDA (job development authority)
In a recent housing study, Carrington was listed as having a 30% surplus of housing. Mayor Don Frye said that the survey did not have all the complete data and that the city approved up to $3,500 for a new study. The new study will show all the issues Carrington currently has with housing and may allow for more funding. A reputable company out of Minnesota is doing the survey. Phase 1 of the new survey is completed already. Foster County housing authority will supply up to $1,000 for the new survey as well.
Public Works
A new street project will be getting underway this spring, further details will be coming soon. A new sanding truck was approved for Public Works, the truck being used right now is 33 years old and worn out. The approval was up to $30,000, they want to purchase it before the end of the year.
City Hall will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, as well as New Years Eve and New Years Day.
