CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City State women’s basketball team, softball team and baseball team have added some new recruits for the 2013 seasons.
Valley City State University head women’s basketball coach Jill DeVries is pleased to announce that West Fargo high school guard Lexi Lennon has decided to attend VCSU and join the women’s basketball program.
‘We are very excited about Lexi choosing VCSU. She is a great fit athletically and a person of character that we feel fits what Viking women’s basketball is all about.’ DeVries commented. ‘She is an outstanding student athlete with high expectations of herself on and off of the basketball court.’
Lennon averaged 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals in her junior season for the Packers. She was a 2012 All-EDC conference first team selection, 2012 Class A All-State player, 2012 Class A GBB All-Tournament team selection and West Fargo team MVP.
Lennon is an all-around athlete at West Fargo. She is an all-conference performer on the softball diamond and a track and field and golf participant in her career a WFHS.
‘Lexi is a great competitor. She has worked very hard over this past summer and we are looking forward to having her in our program.’ said DeVries. ‘She is an athletic guard with outstanding offensive skills. She can shoot the three, and is physical going to the basket.’
The Valley City State University Softball Team has signed Courtney Kinnett, a first baseman currently attending Colby Community College (KS).
Kinnett, who played high school ball at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, CO, will transfer in the fall of 2013 after finishing her second season this spring at Colby Community College (CCC). Kinnett hit .305 in her freshman season with an on base percentage of .387. Defensively, she plays a strong corner position with a 95.3 fielding percentage last spring.
During the fall 2012 season, Kinnett hit .405 with a .500 on base percentage.
As strong as her playing ability it, Kinnett is just as successful in the classroom, sporting a 4.0 grade point average and being listed to the President’s Honor Roll at CCC. She is also active in clubs and organizations on campus and the community including the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Club, the Circle K Club and has served as a Colby Community College Ambassador.
‘Courtney is a great fit for us at Valley City State,’ commented head coach Chad Slyter. ‘She is skilled offensively and will bring a great presence to our team having had a number of games under her belt at the college level. Off the field, she is an outstanding student and is active in a number of clubs and organizations. I look forward to having Courtney as a part of our program for the next two seasons.’
Devon Wu, a high school right handed pitcher from Newmarket, Ontario, has signed a letter of intent for a baseball scholarship at Valley City State University. Devon will attend the Fall semester of 2013 and play for the Viking baseball teams
Devon was awarded MVP this year with his high school baseball team the Mulock Ravens at Sir William Mulock Secondary School.
