N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The season opener for Jamestown Blue Jays basketball was a split against Fargo Davies, with the girls team coming out victorious in the first game and the boys team falling by 34 in the second.

Led by 21 points from Kyra Dewald and 20 from Billie Buchanan, the Blue Jay girls defeated the Eagles 88-76.

The Blue Jays trailed 45-44 at half, but managed to increase their defensive intensity in the second half, holding the Eagles to just 32 second half points.

Paige Peterson added 15 points as well, and McKayla Orr contributed 11 — all in the second half.

As for the boys, they got off to a poor start and never were able to recover, dropping a 92-58 contest to the Eagles.

Davies went into halftime up 44-24, led by 11 first half points from their All-EDC guard Andrew Kozlowski. He finished with 17 for the game, third on the team in scoring behind 23 from 6’6” center David Olson and 21 from junior point guard Tanner Kretchman.

For the Blue Jays, they were led in scoring by 10 points each from McKade Kleinknecht and Brandon Wagner. Sean Lindberg contributed 9 as well.

Both the girls and boys will play next on Friday at home at Jerry Meyer Arena. The girls will tip off at 5:45 p.m. and the boys will play 20 minutes following the conclusion of the girls game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
