(NewsDakota.com) The Maple Valley Raiders are favored by many to do a lot of things well in the 2012-13 North Dakota High School boys basketball season. If Saturday afternoon’s performance against Oakes is any indication, it promises to be a season full of impressive moments.

The Raiders went out to a 9-0 lead to start their contest against the Tornadoes and never looked back en route to a 72-43 victory. 6’7 junior center James Richman led all players in scoring with 29 points; his Raider teammate Jordan Haseleu finished with 17 points.

Oakes was lead in scoring by freshman Ethan Zetocha’s 11 points; Bryce Meehl was second with 7.   The Tornadoes as a team were a perfect 12 for 12 from the free-throw line.

Maple Valley (2-1 1-0 District 2) plays again on Tuesday at the Barnes County Boys Basketball tournament, with a first round matchup against Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page. Oakes (0-2 0-1 District 1) goes to Lisbon on Thursday evening, with coverage on KDDR 1220 AM/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starting around 7:15.
