(NewsDakota.com) The North Dakota Highway Patrol released statewide numbers from their high intensity traffic saturation event which took place between Wednesday and Sunday of Thanksgiving week; with all available sworn personnel on patrol.
The Patrol stated during the five day period, troopers issued a total of 1813 citations and 672 warnings. 26 motorists were arrested for DUI and 12 were arrested on drug-related charges.
Troopers also responded to 63 calls for service, and also assisted 36 motorists along the state’s roadways. Six vehicles were cited for overload violations for a total of $10,137 in fines.
So far this year, 152 people have died on state roadways compared to 148 all of 2011. 53 percent of the 2012 fatalities have been alcohol-related.
Troopers will be working overtime hours through the rest of the year in an attempt to reduce fatalities.
