(NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City State men’s and women’s basketball teams combined to go 3-1 Thanksgiving weekend during a tournament in Dickinson.
VCSU’s women swept the weekend, defeating Rocky Mountain College and Dickinson State. The Viking men dropped their first game against Rocky Mountain, but bounced back with a win over Dickinson State.
In men’s action, VCSU led Rocky Mountain 33-32 at the half before falling by a final score of 83-75. Sekani Milligen went 7-for-10 from 3-point range and finished with 24 points to lead the Vikings in the Friday loss. Gus Kueber dropped 16 in the loss.
On Saturday, it was again Milligen and Kueber leading the team on offense. Milligen scored 22 points and Kueber poured in 19 as the Vikings defeated Dickinson State 79-65. VCSU improves their record to 5-2. They’re in action again on Tuesday at MSU-Moorhead. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Moorhead. The game can be heard on KOVC 1490, KDAK 1600 and KDDR 1220. Pregame starting about 6:45 p.m.
In women’s action this weekend, Valley City State swept the competition and improved their record to 5-1 overall.
Katelyn Ralston scored 17, Brittany Lehner dropped 16 and Alyssa Hummel added 12 points as the Vikings knocked off Rocky Mountain on Friday by a score of 79-65. VCSU led at halftime 47-34.
Another balanced offensive attack on Saturday led the Vikings to a 61-52 victory over Dickinson. Lehner scored 16 points, Courtney Titus had 12 and Sadiqah Jihad added 10 points in the win.
VCSU’s women are on the road at University of Mary in Bismarck for an exhibition game on Tuesday night.
