CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City officials threatened Barnes County with a lawsuit for possible breach of their 9-1-1 contract with the city if the county takes control before the existing contract expires in July of 2013.

City Administrator David Schelkoph says the city is also concerned about pushing the transition through before all entities are ready referring to the January first deadline.

Valley City commissioner Mary Lee Nielsen said more time is needed help make the transition a smoother process.

Barnes County State’s Attorney Lee Grossman advised the commission to hold off on the transition until the contract expires in July of 2013.

Barnes County Commissioner Jon Froehlich repeated his stance that the move is ill advised and will be costly for the county.

The county commission appeared to be willing to push back the 9-1-1 contract take over until July. But there was no motion to push back the take over date now set for January first at their Tuesday meeting.
