(NewsDakota.com)- One of the best volleyball season in the history of Jamestown High came to end today at the state tournament. The Jays fell in the consolation championship to the Fargo Shaley Deacons in a great five-set match (21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 15-11).

Jamestown jumped out in the opening set playing with the swagger and confidence fans saw throughout their 13-win WDA season.

The Deacons used early runs in the second and third set to take a lead and then held off late rallies by the Jays. Shanley stormed to a 14-3 advantage in the second and 21-9 in the third. Both times Jamestown was able to close the gap to three before Shanley closed the door.

The fourth set was maybe the most entertaining set the Jays played all season. Meghan Orr and Julina Niemeier were saving balls left and right, Billie Buchanan paced the hitters, and the Jays forced a fifth set.

In the fifth, Shanley was able to put together the first run and in a set that only goes to 15 that is usually the difference. Jamestown fought off a couple match points.

Buchanan finished with a team high 14 kills. Siri Jystad finished her all-state caliber season and career with 13 kills.

Josie Hegerle had another five aces and picked up 30 assists.

Jamestown finishes the year at 28-11 (13-3) with a sixth place finish at the state tournament.
