CITY (NewsDakota.com) — The Valley City State University football team has ended the season as one of the top 25 NAIA teams in the country.

The Vikings finished the season 7-3 and are ranked No. 24 in the final coaches’ poll. The Vikings had their sights set on the playoffs entering the season, but home losses to South Dakota School of Mines and Jamestown College hurt their playoff chances.

The Vikings ended the season Nov. 3 with a come-from-behind 21-20 win over then No. 22-ranked Robert Morris. VCSU will graduate 13 seniors who played big roles on this year’s team and last year’s playoff team.

Valley City State is the only team in the Dakotas ranked at the end of the season. Georgetown of Kentucky is the top-ranked team. The 16-team NAIA playoffs begin Nov. 17.
