(NewsDakota.com) The city of Oakes and the surrounding area gathered at the Oakes High School north gym on Monday morning to pay tribute to members of the community who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces as part of Veteran’s Day observances throughout the country.

Among the dignitaries in attendance was the Dickey County VSO and VFW Past State Commander Steve Frojen, State American Legion Membership Chairman Don Weible and VFW Post Commander and Iraq War Veteran Caleb Aberle; who spoke about his personal battle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and how being a part of the VFW has been influential in his new life away from the battlefield.

Post 36 Chaplain Art Olien gave the Invocation and the Benediction, and Allison Cox performed the National Anthem.

The event was sponsored by the American Legion Post 36 and the VFW Post 9049.
