CITY (NewsDakota.com) – First place is on the line Friday night as the Valley City Hi-Liners and Fargo Shanley Deacons clash in an East Region showdown.

The Hi-Liners (4-1, 3-1 East) and Deacons (4-2, 3-1 East) are part of a four-way tie for first place in the region heading into Friday’s game in Fargo. Shanley was ranked No. 1 in the state before being upset last week by Central Cass.

Valley City head coach Scott Roehrich says his team is preparing for a diverse Shanley offense.


Valley City is coming off three straight wins, including a dominating 40-13 win over Lisbon last week during Hi-Liner homecoming. Valley City racked up 383 rushing yards in the victory, including 206 yards and a touchdown from Shane Undem. Anthony Olstad had 98 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and Dustin Lindgren and Brandon Breckheimer both added rushing touchdowns.

Valley City, Shanley, Wahpeton and Grafton are all tied for first in the region at 3-1. Central Cass and Lisbon are both 2-2. Valley City has games remaining at Shanley, at home against Central Cass, and at Grafton.
