CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Opponents of Measure 5 will hold a meeting in Valley City tonight to discuss why they’re against the initiated measure that will be on the November 6 ballot.
Kidder County Rancher Jason Schmidt believes it will have a negative impact on animal agriculture if it passes.
A Town Hall meeting will be held tonight at 7pm at the Eagles Club in Valley City to discuss why the group is against Measure 5.
Meanwhile, Karen Thunshelle of Minot led the effort to get the measure on the ballot. She says opponents of Measure 5 are turning a deaf ear to the fact that North Dakota legislators refuse to pass laws to protect pets. She says their fears are unfounded.
If the measure passes anyone who impales, disembowels, beats or burns a dog, cat or horse could be charge with a Class “C” Felony. North Dakota and South Dakota are the only states that do not have felony laws for animal cruelty.
Another Town Hall meeting will be held Thursday in the Bowman, North Dakota City Hall at 7pm Oct. 4
