CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) It took volunteer searchers 2 hours using metal detectors to recover a memory card from a digital camera attached to the plane of Bob Odegaard that crashed on September 7th in Valley City.

Officials hope the memory card can shed some light on the cause of the crash.

Barnes County Airport Authority Chairman Dennis Helland says the search team of 10 people led by former North Dakota National Guard Adjutant General Mike Haugen found the memory card about 50 to 60 feet from the initial crash site next to the airports concrete run-way.

Haugen told newsdakota.com that the memory card was handed over to federal officials shortly after it was discovered on airport property.

Helland tells newsdakota.com that he hopes the memory card will tell officials what caused the plane to lose control and crash.

Odegaard died in the plane crash while practicing for an air show at the Barnes County Municipal Airport on September 7.
