CITY (NewsDakota.com)–Jamestown College leads both the mens and womens field, while a Valley City State women’s golfer leads the medalist chase after the first day of the Valley City State University Invitational at Maple River Golf Course in Mapleton, ND.
The Jimmie men shot a team 308, and lead the Vikings by 13 shots after the first day of the event. Tommy Rockis (Jr., Roseau, MN) led the Jimmies and the individual field, shooting a 72. Jack Bietz (Sr., Bismarck, ND) and Tyler Baukol (Fr., Detroit Lakes, MN) are tied for third with 78s, and Kameron Hunter (Jr., Gillette, WY) is tied for sixth with a first-day 80 to finalize the Jimmie score.
The Viking men scored a day-one 321. Darren Young (Fr., Leeds, ND) led the Vikings with a 77, second individually after the first day. Casey Colmer (So., Gwinner, ND) shot an 80, finishing the first day tied for sixth. Ryan Lenoue (Jr., Barnesville, MN) and Ben Sorenson (Fr., Valley City, ND) each shot 82 to round out the Viking scoring.
The Jimmie women scored a 365, and have a 33-shot lead over Dickinson State. Ashley Barnhart (Fr., Kenmare, ND) led the team with an 85, second individually overall. Brianna Stein (Jr., Hankinson, ND) is third overall with an 88. Beth Ryan (So., Ray, ND) shot 93, and Chandler Germundson (So., Mayville, ND) shot a 98.
The Vikings carded a 402, but Ashley Hinrichs (Jr., Harvey, ND) leads the medalist race with a first-day 84. Haley Christofferson (Fr., Lisbon, ND) is fourth with a 92. Alyssa Tait (Sr., Valley City, ND) shot 110, and Katie Paulson (Sr., Valley City, ND) carded a 116.
