(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes Football team had a bit of a dog fight on their hands in Fargo on Friday night, but were able to improve to 3-0 after defeating the Fargo Oak Grove Grovers 28-14.
Oakes took a 13-0 lead to start things off, with a Dalton Magill 1 yard touchdown run, followed by a Blake Hollingsworth 6 yard run. Oak Grove’s Couton Dangerfield made a statement to end the first quarter and start the second quarter with the next two scores, runs of 35 and 99 yards to give his team the lead with both extra point attempts made.
But the Tornadoes got back on the offensive and scored in the late second quarter on a 3 yard run by Hollingsworth, and in the third quarter, Erik Loepp scored from 10 yards out to seal the deal.
Oak Grove ran for 202 yards, but fumbled the ball three times resulting in turnovers. Oakes had 313 yards of offense, 151 yards passing and 162 on the ground and two interceptions.
Next up for Oakes is a home contest against Northern Cass on Friday September 14. Coverage on KDDR 1220 AM/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:30 p.m. with kick at 7.
