CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner tennis team was swept by the Grand Forks Central Knights 9-0 in Valley City Tuesday.
Of the nine contests, two doubles matches gave Valley City the best chance at victory. The teams of Dustin Miller/Ricky Paulson and Wyatt Reinhart/Brandon Miller were able to win first set victories, but were then turned away.
“Dustin and Ricky beat last year’s state runner-up in the first set. Our confidence was up, we played as a team, we believed in that first set. Somehow, we lost the spark for the next two sets,” explained Hi-Liner head coach Matt Nielson
In singles play, Dalton Ondracek was nipped 6-4, 6-4 by Central’s Andrew Thompson.
“Dalton is going for his shots and he put a real scare into a really good player. He is always playing to win, has the right attitude, and is always giving 100% physically and mentally,” said Nielson.
Valley City’s next action is at 14-time state champion Grand Forks Red River Thursday in Grand Forks. Red River’s #4 single’s player placed fourth in the state single’s tournament a year ago. The match starts at 4:30 p.m.
