CITY, N.D. (AP) North Dakota Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rick Berg got a few moments in the spotlight at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday.

Berg spoke for two minutes about North Dakota’s low unemployment, job growth and state budget surplus. He says in contrast to the sluggish national economy, North Dakota businesses are “doing fine.”  Berg says North Dakota doesn’t “burden our job creators with red tape” and that people “trust the individual, not big government … This is the North Dakota way, and it works.”

Berg was one of a series of speakers on the Republican convention stage in Tampa Tuesday. He is running against former North Dakota Democratic Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp for the Senate seat now held by Democrat Kent Conrad. Conrad is not running for re-election.
