(NewsDakota.com) A few items of note came from the Oakes School Board’s regular monthly meeting back on Tuesday.

The School Board approved a first reading for a budget for the 2013-14 school year that calls for no increase in mill levy dollars to the school district; it will be the same amount as the current 2012-13 school year. In addition, as opposed to last year, there will be no public tax hearing this year. A second reading, which will finalize the issue, will be conducted at next month’s meeting.

The district is still short two bus drivers, and with classes starting next week, has reduced the number of bus routes by one for this school year from seven to six. The students on the route that was lost will be spread out within the other six routes, and will result in earlier bus times to school, and later times home for those students affected.

Summer projects within the campus of Oakes High are running a little bit behind schedule. Oakes Superintendent Art Conklin says the locker room project on the north side of campus should be close to completion next week, and the reposiitoning of seating in the south gymnasium will be completed shortly thereafter.

The first day of school is Wednesday  next regularly scheduled Oakes Public School Board monthly meeting is September 11.
