funeral service for Henry “Hank” Tuenge, 86, Page, North Dakota will be 10:30 am Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, North Dakota. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Valley City. He died Monday, August 13, at the Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City.
Visitation will be 4-7 pm Thursday at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel and one hour before the services in the chapel.
Henry Fredrick William Tuenge was born on January 24, 1926, the son of Benjamin and Ella (Hass) Tuenge in Valley City. He was raised on a farm and attended country school near Rogers, ND. His family moved to Valley City and then moved to a farm near Pillsbury, ND, where he worked with his parents raising cattle and farming. Hank enlisted in the US Navy in 1941, and completed his naval training at Farragut Naval Training Station in Farragut, Idaho. He was stationed in San Diego before being deployed on the destroyer USS Hawkins during World War II. Hank was Honorably Discharged as Seaman First Class in 1946. After his discharged, Hank was employed by the Corp of Engineers and helped in the building of Bald Hill Dam near Valley City.
On August 1, 1948, Henry was united in marriage to Martha Friestad in Valley City, ND. They moved to Page in 1958, where he worked at Busy Bee Garage as a mechanic and later for Mars Equipment Company as an implement mechanic and also for Anderson Equipment and Suhr Motors. Hank was proud of working on International Harvester equipment. He always said “If it ain’t red, leave it in the shed”. Hank also worked part time for Herb Smith on his farm. After he retired, Hank would still go over to the shop and stoke the coal, make coffee, and pump gas. Martha passed away on January 2, 2007.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Hank enjoyed fishing, taking pictures, bowling, hunting, playing cards, golfing, his radio controlled planes and trains, and his cars. He was a member of United Methodist Church and American Legion Post # 154 in Page.
Hank will be remembered and deeply missed by his three daughters, Linda (Jerome) Drogen, Page, Dee (Rob) Nelson, Valley City, and Dianne (Russ Sherman) Hertel, Carrington, ND; eleven grandchildren, Ben (Roxie) Drogen, Buffalo, ND, Trisha ( Brian) Steiner, Mapleton, ND, Todd (Jamie) Munson, Eagan, MN, Lacie (Matt Baumgarter) Drogen, Maple Valley, MN, Laurie (Ben) Nelson, Cooperstown, ND, Monica (Matt) Mason, Fessenden, ND, Darrick Munson, Apple Valley, MN, Megan Kankelfritz, West Minister, CO, Mikayela Munson, Mankato, MN, Courtney Nelson and Kristin Nelson, both of Valley City; eleven great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Connor, and Steven Drogen, Emilea and Isaac Steiner, Hawken, Corbin, and Purdee Nelson, Jayden, Gavin and Owen Mason; one brother, Clarence (Selma) Tuenge, Monticello, MN; two sisters, Margary Abraham, Valley City and Delores Burchill, Bismarck, ND; one sister-in-law, Sonja Johansen, Valley City; many nieces and nephews; and friends.
He is in heaven with his parents and his wife Martha.
