graveside memorial service for Susan M. Hill, 95, Grand Rapids, MN, formerly of Valley City, ND, will be 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Pingree Cemetery, Pingree, ND. Rev. Dan Forsberg of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City, will officiate. She died August 1, 2012 at Grand Village in Grand Rapids.
Susan May Wright was born in Jamestown, ND on April 29, 1917 to James and May (Challoner) Wright. She attended rural school in Homer Township, near Jamestown and Jamestown High School. She graduated from Pingree, ND High School in 1935. After attending Valley City Teachers College, she taught in Stutsman County.
During WWII, she served 4 years in the US Navy. On March 9, 1947, she married Wilfred J. “Bud” Hill at Pingree. They lived at North Dakota Wildlife Refuges at Edmunds, Foxholm, and Upham.
In 1977, they moved to Valley City where she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Chaffin of Birmingham, AL; son, Curtis (Janine) Hill of Warba, MN; granddaughters, Sarah (Wayne) Cheek, Corpus Christie, TX; Trisha (Nate) Reilley, Brainerd, MN; a grandson, John Brown, Madison, WI; great granddaughters, Claire Alexis and Allie Marie; and several nieces and nephews.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Marilyn; brothers, James and Thomas; and a sister, Frances Jones.
In lieu of flowers, Susan requested memorials be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 499 NW 4th Ave, Valley City, ND 58072, or a charity of your choice.
