CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Work on a 0,000 river bank stabilization project along the Sheyenne River in Valley City will start soon after the low bid was accepted last week from Strata Corporation.

Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven says other areas of the city could benefit from stabilization projects like this.

Soil Conservation District spokeswoman Lori Frank says an E-P-A grant will pay for 60 percent of the project. Two property owners and the city are paying for a share of the project. The city’s share of the project is slightly more than $6,000.

Franks says the 350-foot river bank restoration will start near the city park bridge and run back toward 2nd street southwest.

The Soil Conservation District Watershed Project will place rocks, timbers and other material to prevent further river bank erosion near the Elks building along the Sheyenne River.
