CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 2012 estimated taxable valuation of property tax levies in the Valley City public school district is ,378,682 compared to the 2011 taxable valuation of 27,655,858.
Superintendent Dean Koppelman says that figure is an estimated and the school district budget may have to be adjusted depending on the actual figure once it’s available.
The proposed 2012-2013 general budget is estimated at $11,257,639 with estimated revenue of $11,016,965. Koppelman says there is an estimated budget deficit is $240,673 dollars due to special education programs in the district. Koppelman says that figure will more than likely be adjusted depending on actual revenue received and the actual 2012 taxable valuation of property tax levies in the district.
Valley City School District business manager Linda Heit came within one percent of the projected 2012-2013 budget compared to last years budget. Superintendent Koppleman and Valley City school board members complimented Heit on her hard work and getting within one percent of the projected budget.
Koppelman says the interim fund was estimated at $1,319,000 and it actually came in at $1,300,000 with a gain of $145,000.
Koppelman said over a 12 year period the Valley City School District has increased by an annual average of 2.6 percent.
Koppelman says the state foundation aid payment per student increased from $3,910 to $3,980 due to action taken by North Dakota lawmakers in the last legislative session.
Koppelman says another Individual Learning Center Coordinator position will be added this coming school year in Washington elementary at an estimated cost of $37,523 per year. The school district already has two coordinators, one for the High School and another at the Junior High School.
Koppelman says the school district will be looking at updating the heating and cooling system at the High School and Junior High School building in the near future.
