(NewsDakota.com) The Section 2 American Legion baseball tournament has been a wild one; and once again on Saturday, that was the case. #1 Lisbon Post 7 and #2 LaMoure Post 19 were playing for the title, even though both teams are going to be at the State B Tournament starting Wednesday. LaMoure took game one, and then the rains took the rest of the day away from ball being played.
Game 1: LaMoure 2 Lisbon 1 (8 innings)
The first game saw some significant defensive plays, with each team throwing out a runner at the plate to keep the game to a 1-1 tie going to extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Beau Diegal drove a hit to right field, scoring Tyler Theilges to win the game. Diegal was the winning pitcher, going all eight innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits, and striking out four. Hunter Maris took the loss also going the complete eight innings, with both runs earned on five hits, and striking out seven.
Game 2: LaMoure 5 Lisbon 5 (Bottom 4th, Play Suspended)
The winner-take-all battle started with LaMoure with a run in the top of the first, followed by a three spot answered by Lisbon with all nine hitters reaching. LaMoure answered by batting around in the second and scoring four more runs, before lisbon added another two in the bottom of the third.
Play was stopped about an hour into the game due to lightning, and then shortly after, the rains came. The field received close to two inches in the 90 minutes that followed the start of the delay.
Both coaches and tournament officials decided to have play resume on Sunday in Lisbon with the bottom of the fourth, and Lisbon coming to the plate. Resumption of play is set for 1 p.m., and coverage can be heard on KDDR 1220 AM/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starting at 12:45.
