CITY  (NewsDakota.com)–The top seed in Section 1 showed their dominance and sent Valley City to loser-out play Thursday night.

Jeremy Bontjes no-hit Post 60 while Valley City pitchers struggled with control in an 11-0 (5) win by Wahpeton in the Section 1 semi-finals in Lidgerwood.

The win sends Wahpeton to the title series Saturday, their third consecutive trip there after joining Class “B” baseball.
Valley City allowed only six hits in the game, as Austen Meyer attempted to keep hitters off-balance with a steady diet of breaking pitches.  Control problems were Valley City’s undoing.

Meyer walked five and hit one batter in 3.1 innings, and relief hurler Spencer Meyer hit two and walked one, for a total of nine free passes on the night.  Eight of those came in the third and fourth, when Wahpeton had all six of their hits and capitalized on three errors for all 11 of their runs.

Bontjes did the rest.  After sitting out all of last year due to injury, he looked the part of the best arm in the league, mixing biting sliders and tight curve balls with an overpowering fast ball for nine strikeouts.  He allowed just a walk in the second and one in the fifth for the two runners Valley City managed on the night.

While Valley City has seen success in the tournament, Bontjes continued a tough trend for Post 60 hitters.  Nine more strikeouts brings Valley City to 31 strikeouts in the tournament, covering just 19 innings of hitting.

Valley City meets the winner if Kindred and Harwood tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.  The game will be heard on Q101 KQDJ-FM.
