(NewsDakota.com) Day number two of the Class B Section 2 American Legion baseball tournament saw another four games filled with plenty of story lines.
#2 LaMoure 5 #6 Wishek 3
Game one on Thursday saw LaMoure Post 19 take a 5-0 lead into the seventh inning. Post 87 made a run of it late, but were only able to hang three in the final frame. Chris Heinrich earned the win for Post 19 (10-4), and Tanner Carlson picked up a save coming in with two outs in the seventh. Adam Jacobson was the losing pitcher for Post 87 (4-10) lasting just three and one-thrid innings.
#3 Carrington 12 #7 Ellendale 5
In game two, Post 25 (9-5) scattered their offensive tallies, with four in the second and fourth innings, two in the sixth, and one each in the first and seventh to sail to the victory. Post 13 (0-13) saw their season end with stranding 12 runners on base. Clay Heinley was the winning pitcher for Carrington, and Alex Tschocik was the losing pitcher for Ellendale.
#6 Wishek 11 #5 Oakes 10 (8 Innings)
The third game was the first of two that went extra innings, as Oakes Post 36 (6-8) had a 10-6 lead going to the bottom of the seventh, when Post 87 (5-10) scored four in the final part of regulation to tie. In the extra inning, Tucker Meidinger scored to win the ballgame with one out in the bottom of the eighth. Meidinger also earned the win for Wishek, while Simon Maddock took the loss for Oakes.
#4 Enderlin 6 #3 Carrington 5 (8 Innings)
The final game also saw extra baseball. Enderlin was down 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh, and with Post 221 (8-6) down to their final strike, Garreth Hansen hit a single to right that scored Thomas Lindgren to end the game to an extra inning. In the eighth, Dalton Bartholomay and Tanner Groth each scored, while Post 25 (9-6) failed to drive in a run in the bottom half. Groth was the winning pitcher, with five innings, and allowing two runs with three strikeouts, while Pete Henson went all eight innings for Carrington and took the loss with 13 hits surrendered and eight strikeouts.
Day three is a triple-header starting with LaMoure and Lisbon in a winners bracket game at 11:30, followed by two loser out games. At 2, it’s Enderlin and Wishek, and at 4:30, it’s the winner of the 2 p.m. game and the loser of the 11:30 game.
