(NewsDakota.com) Day one of the 2012 Section 2 American Legion baseball tournament was one to remember for sure. 

#4 Enderlin 6 #5 Oakes 4

In the first of the four games, Oakes Post36 had a 4-1 lead after the end of the fourth inning; but Post 221 rallied for five runs in the final two innings to earn the victory. Dylan Lerud had two hits and two runs scored in those last two frames, and Garreth Hanson earned the victory on the mound. Simon Maddock took the loss for Post 36, and Oakes was lead offensively by Tanner Zetocha’s three hits and one run scored.

#2 LaMoure 16 #7 Ellendale 8

In game two, LaMoure Post 19 seemed to be rolling on against Ellendale; who hadn’t won a game against their Section 2 opponents all year long. However, trailing 8-1 in the fifth inning; Post 13 scored seven runs to tie it up. In the sixth, Post 19 hanged their own crooked number, an eight spot to seal up the win. Kenny Hodem and Jared Meiklejohn each scored four runs for Post 19, while Devin Linthorne scored twice for Post 13, including a double.

#1 Lisbon 5 #4 Enderlin 0 

Game three saw the #1 seed well rested, and was able to shut down Post 221, with Enderlin stranding nine men on base. Post 7 scored a run in the first, two in the second, and added another two in the sixth to advance, and have Thursday off. Nathan Mangin scored three times for Post 7, and Trent Toso earned the win. Dylan Lerud was the losing pitcher for Post 221.

#6 Wishek 14 #3 Carrington 11 (10 Innings)

In a game that went two and a half hours, Wishek had a commanding 1-0 lead after the first inning. Carrington came clawing back, and made it 8-3 going to the bottom of the seventh, then rallied for five runs to force extra innings. Each team scored a run in the ninth, and in the tenth, Wishek scored five runs to Carrington’s two. Mike Jacobson was the winning pitcher, and hit a three run home run. Pete Henson also went yard for Carrington.

Day two from Wishek again starts at 10 a.m. on Thursday, and it’s another quadruple header. At 10, it’s LaMoure and Wishek in a winner’s bracket contest, followed by Ellendale and Carrington in a loser-out game at 12:30. Oakes plays the loser of LaMoure/Wishek in a loser-out contest at 3, and at 5:30, it’s Enderlin versus the winner of Ellendale/Carrington in another loser-out affair.
