Hendrix passed away on July 24, 2012 at The Inn on Westport in Sioux Falls, SD, under hospice care.
Lyle Hendrix was born on January 31, 1920 in Mitchell, SD, the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Bluhm) Hendrix. He attended country school and graduated from Artesian, SD high school in 1938. He married Elaine Stoner in Lead, SD on August 17, 1940. Lyle entered the US Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked for Black Hills Power until 1951, when the family moved to Carthage, SD where he owned and operated a movie theater. Lyle also co-owned an auto garage with his brother, Lloyd. They moved to Jamestown in 1972 where he worked for EZ Sales, and after a few years, he went to work for Newman Signs until his retirement in 2008. Elaine died as a result of an auto crash in 2005. Lyle moved to Sioux Falls in 2008 and resided at The Inn on Westport until his death.
Lyle loved to work with his hands and stay busy. He enjoyed wood carving and gardening.
Lyle and Elaine loved to square dance and spent many weekends at dances. Lyle was a square dance instructor and taught many people the art of square dancing. They loved to travel and went to Alaska twice, traveled the southern states, and spent winters in Texas.
Lyle is survived by his children, Ronald (Janie) Hendrix, Garretson, SD, Russell (Sharon) Hendrix, Pierre, SD, Barb (Dale) Bauer, Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy (Kevin) Miller, Jamestown, ND, and Trude (Robert) Hendrickson, Fargo, ND; brothers, Robert (Mildred) Hendrix and Lloyd (Carol) Hendrix, Artesian, SD; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; parents; sister, Frances; daughter-in-law, Margaret; and grandson, Kevin.
Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2012 at First united Methodist Church, Jamestown.
Visitation: 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday, July 27, 2012 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Interment: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
