(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes City Council met for their regular monthly on Monday evening.

The Council learned of plans to a home located at 715 Main Avenue that was damaged by a fire last year. Ray Stenson reported to the Council that the property has become a danger and a public eyesore as no work has been done to the house since the fire. According to Stenson, the area with the burn damage will be removed, and the home will have improvements made by September to make it habitable again. The Building Official and Pat Nelson will be reviewing the plans, and a building permit will be applied for with a progress report given to the Council next month.

Oakes Police Chief Marke Roberts also spoke at the meeting in regards to issues with public safety radios. The radios were narrowbanded to meet new FCC regulations, but as a result, are now unable to communicate with state radio due to the distance away from state towers. Roberts said the Dickey County Emergency Manager Charlie Russell has been notified and is working on possible solutions.

Park garbage bins are being used by some for disposal of game cleaning waste, and will now have signs and notices published. The new garbage route is also being worked on and notices will be mailed and published before the new route goes into effect.

The next Council meeting is set for Monday August 6.
