CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) Officials with the Army Corps of Engineers presented a few ideas on possible flood protection for Valley City during a meeting on Tuesday.

USACE spokeswoman Sierra Schroder says due to the benefit to cost ratio study conducted earlier only vital areas of the city would justify the construction of building permanent dikes of levees in Valley City.
Critical facilities would include Mercy Hospital, Valley City State, City Hall, the Fire Station and the Post Office in Valley City.

Phase I of the USACE feasibility study now underway should be completed by December. Phase II will be to evaluate and compare project alternatives before moving to the development of a tentatively selected plan for the city.
