CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Work on the first phase of the 9th Avenue Northwest paving improvement project is expected to begin this month in Valley City.

City commissioners selected the option of working on the first phase from Main Street to 4th Street Northwest this year and then working north to 12th Street northwest next year.

K-L-J Engineer Chad Petersen says the bid on the nearly $5-million dollar project was awarded to Lindberg Brothers of Jamestown at $4.28 million.

$3 million dollars in federal money, $1.8 million in local funds and about $400,000 in engineering fees are including in this $4.8 million dollar reconstruction project.

A public meeting for residents and businesses along 9th avenue northwest is set for Thursday, July 12 at 7pm inside the city commission chamber to explain the impact of the project.

City auditor Avis Richter says the cost to residents for water and sewer hook-ups will remain capped at $4,000 for 9th avenue residents but the paving special assessments costs to residents will increase to 103.5 dollars per linear foot compared to a previous estimate of 102.9 dollars per linear foot.
