N.D. (NewsDakota.com)  The sheriff of Cass County has been recognized as the Sheriff of the Year during a ceremony in Tennessee.

Sheriff Paul Laney is the 18th recipient of the Ferris E. Lucas National Sheriff of the Year Award, given out annually by the National Sheriffs’ Association.

KFGO radio reports that Laney received the award Sunday night in front of 50 co-workers, family members and friends. The Forum reports that he is the first North Dakota sheriff to win the award.

Laney calls the award “one of the greatest honors” of his career. He says he hopes the award will bring positive attention to Cass County and to his staff.
