CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The track and field post-season began for the Hi-Liners Saturday at the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) championships at Fargo South.
The Hi-Liner girls delivered the lone individual title for Valley City and finished seventh overall with 31 points. The boys were 10th with nine points.
The girls team delivered on championship. Senior Jenna Coghlan won the title in the javelin throw, with a toss fo 112′ 10″, two inches better than Lexi Klabo of Fargo Davies, a team that swept the next three spots in the contest.
In her senior season, Jenna Jacob continued to deliver. She finished third in the 100-meter dash (12.73), and was the lead leg of the fifth-place 400-meter relay (51.87) team, and ran a leg of the seventh-place 1600-meter relay (4:19.09).
April Berntson was fifth in the 1600-meter run (5:30.23). Molly Willson added a seventh in the 100-meter dash (12.89), and was part of two relay teams to place. Abby Brown finished seventh in the triple jump (33′ 11.75″) The 800-meter relay team finished eighth (1:54.76).
On the boys side, Paul Viland led the team with a third-place pole vault (12′ 9″). The 400-meter relay team finished seventh (47.46) and the 800-meter relay team finished eighth (1:37.00).
The state competition will be held this Friday and Saturday at the Community Bowl in Bismarck. Dakota Country Radio and NewsDakota.com will have coverage of the event throughout the weekend.
