(NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council took no official action Wednesday in a funding dispute between the Frontier Village Association and the Buffalo City Tourism Foundation.

The council held a special meeting to hear a funding request from the Frontier Village Association, which was seeking money to fully pay for its manager position this year.

The council instead encouraged the Frontier Village Association to accept a funding compromise offered last week by the Tourism Foundation. The compromise would fund the manager position for 18 weeks, after which the Village could request more money from the Tourism Foundation to fund the manager position for the remainder of the year.

Frontier Village Association board president Charlie Tanata addresses the Jamestown City Council on Wednesday during a special meeting.

The Village had requested funds last month from the Tourism Foundation to help pay for its manager position. The Tourism Foundation denied that request, alleging more than two dozen non-compliance issues with the Frontier Village Association. The Tourism Foundation is the main source of funding for the Village, and did grant about $40,000 to the Village for items such as summer staffing, entertainment and carriage rides.

Earlier this week the Tourism Foundation offered the compromise to the Village Association board, which declined it at the time. A majority of board members from the Frontier Village Association were not at the special meeting Wednesday, but board president Charlie Tanata seemed to indicate that the Village board would likely accept the funding compromise now.

The Tourism Foundation wants to see the Village become compliant and shore up the possibility of fraud in the organization, and would likely evaluate the Village’s progress in those areas when it requests more funds later this year. The Tourism Foundation is appointed by the City Council to distribute tourism grant funds.
