CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner softball team decided to take the Mother’s Day weekend to the road, winning three games out of five played in Minnesota and South Dakota.
Valley City played three Saturday, losing to Pipestone, MN 12-0, dropping a 9-3 decision to Murray County Central, then rebounding for a 10-4 win over Marshall, MN.
The showings were decent, considering that Minnesota’s high school fastpitch programs have been in place far longer, and are considerably more advanced than North Dakota’s programs. Pipestone is undefeated this season after a runner-up season at the 2A level a year ago.
A rare day of Sunday high school athletics saw the Hi-Liners sweep the Watertown Arrows 13-8 and 4-3, making it a winning weekend for Valley City.
In all, Keely Fogarty earned two wins, with Jessica Denholm earning one.
Valley City is currently 8-5 in Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) play, in third place, a half-game up on Grand Forks Red River. They play a non-league game at Bismarck Century today.
