(NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota winter wheat producers expect to harvest 34.6 million bushels of winter wheat this spring according to the United States Department of Agriculture’s May crop production report.

That is a 149 percent increase from last year and 96 percent above 2010 production. About 720,000 acres of winter wheat is expected to be harvested in the state, almost double the amount of acres from 2011.

Yield is expected to be about 48 bushel per acre, up 11 bushels per acre from last year. Total U.S. winter wheat production is forecast at 1.69 billion bushels, up 13 percent from 2011.
