CITY (NewsDakota.com)–Major changes will be coming to the Valley City Hi-Liner coaching staff.
But there’s a chance some of the changes may be familiar.
The Hi-Liners have two positions to fill after assistants Dave Corwin and Brad Sufficool resigned their coaching positions after last season.
The 2013 season will be the first since 1990 that a Hi-Liner sideline has not included Corwin. He took the head coaching job in 1991 after Jim Schilling left for the Fargo South job. Corwin was the head coach until moving to an assistant for current head coach Scott Roehrich.
How the positions will be filled will be settled over the next couple of weeks, according to Hi-Liner Athletic Director Dan Larson.
“When you have these positions to fill, you have the opportunity to restructure,” Larson said yesterdatvy.
Larson said that longtime Thunder Football coach Jim Breckheimer has been added in what Larson termed a “quasi-volunteer” role. Whether or not Breckheimer becomes a full-time coach remains to be seen.
Should Breckheimer become a full-time coach, there would be one spot remaining, and that spot could be filled from within the current coaches talent pool at VCHS, or outside of it.
The Hi-Liners were 3-6 last year, winning two non-league games over Carrington and Dickinson Trinity, then losing six of seven Region I (eastern division) games. They will again compete in the “AA” Region I division again this season.
