(NewsDakota.com) It’s been quite the year for the Oakes High School music department. Last month, Governor Jack Dalrymple presented the concert band with the Governor’s band award for 2011-2012, and now every member of the full band will be competing at the State Music Contest in Bismarck this weekend.

All 44 band members earned a “superior” rating in at least one event during the Region 6 Solo and Ensemble Music Contest that was held in Edgeley back on April 14. Six soloists and nine ensembles will have the chance on Saturday to earn a state medal.

The contest is being held on the campus of Bismarck State College.
