(NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission rescinded a burn ban Tuesday that has been in place since March 20.
Emergency manager Jerry Bergquist says fire chiefs in the county felt there was no need anymore for the burn ban. During the ban, people were prohibited from burning when the Fire Danger Index was in the “very high” or “extreme” range. Of the 43 days the burn ban was on, open burning was prohibited on nine different days.
Stutsman County sheriff Chad Kaiser had suggested the commission consider turning the burn ban into a permanent ordinance, which would prohibit burning in the county whenever the Fire Danger Index is in the “very high” or “extreme” range.
Commissioner Dale Marks felt that would place too many burning restrictions on farmers year-round. After lengthy discussion, the commission declined to take action on Kaiser’s suggestion at their Tuesday meeting.
Bergquist says Foster County also rescinded its burn ban on Tuesday.
