CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Hi-Liner girls’ track and field team was part of a log jam for the championship of the Bill Jansen Invitational Tuesday in Valley City.
The Hi-Liner girls fought to the middle of a tough field atop the standings, scoring 96 points, tied for second place with Lisbon. Kindred won the meet with 99 points, while Jamestown was fourth with 93. The boys finished with 27 points.
Valley City won three titles, highlighted by Jenna Jacob’s win in the 200-meter dash (26.88). Allyson Suhr captured the 3200-meter run (12:26.38), and the Hi-Liners won the 400-meter relay (51.50).
Jacob added a sixth in the 100-meter dash (13.56), while Molly Willson was second in that event (13.12). Valley City finished second in the 800-meter relay (1:50.09), and April Berntson was second in the 1600-meter run (5:35.68), with Suhr fourth (5:43.05) in that event. Ruth Ihry added a seventh on the track in the 400-meter dash (1:05.65) and a seventh in the 3200-meter run (14:16.69).
Berntson grabbed fourth in the high jump (4’7″), and Valley City cleaned up in other field events, with Abby Brown fifth (15’10.5″) and Bekah Peterson seventh (15′) in the long jump, Brown fifth (32’8.5″) and Peterson seventh (31’11”) in the triple jump, and Sarah Schauer fifth (6’6″) and Annie Hart sixth (6’6″) in the pole vault. Tonya Van Dyke returned from injury for a fifth (29’2.5″) in the shot put, with Aislinn Fogarty eighth (28’2.5″).
The boys were led by Paul Viland’s second-place finish in the pole vault (12’6″). Nick Lee was third in the 1600-meter run (4:55.56) and sixth in the 3200-meter run (11:14.31). Dereck Durheim was sixth in the 200-meter dash (24.59) and seventh in the long jump (18’6.5″)
Valley City placed sixth in the 400-meter relay (47.68) and seventh in the 800-meter relay (1:40.81).
The Hi-Liners will run in Fargo Thursday at a meet hosted by Fargo Davies.
