CITY (NewsDakota.com)–The Viking golf team was tenth, and the Jimmies ninth, at the Association of Independent Institutions (AII) Golf Meet in Prescott, AZ, which concluded yesterday.
The Viking men shot a team 955, defeating Embry Riddle, AZ by 21 shots in the 54-hole event. Ryan Mehus (Sr., Finley, ND) led the Vikings with a 232, a shot better than teammate Taylor Hendrickson (Sr., Barnesville, MN).
Casey Colemer (So., Gwinner, ND) shot 242, Ryan LeNoue (So., Barnesville, MN) fired a 249, and Matt Sorenson (Jr., Valley City, ND) rounded out the scoring with a 251.
“We played okay, but the reality is that we have a long to go if we want to be competitive at the national level with NAIA golf. We will miss the play of Taylor and Ryan,” said head coach Nate Stover.
The Jimmies shot a 944. They were led by Brad Quast with a 227. Jack Bietz scored a 234, Tommy Rockis a 235, Jake Bauer a 248, and Kameron Hunter a 271.
Only the top team and top individual qualify for the national meet. Victoria, BC won the meet with an 857. Carson Kallis (2, Red Deer, AB) of Victoria won the meet with a 213.
