two wins for the A.I.I. standings, the Vikings came away with a 5-1 and 8-0 sweep of Mayville State University on Sunday at the VCSU College Complex.
In game one, VCSU scored first in the bottom of the first before the Comets responded in the top of the fourth to tie the game at one. Valley City State then took control and scored two in fourth and sixth to complete the scoring for the win.
Haybley Bevan and Adrianna Boychuk collected two hits each to lead the Viking offense who totaled eleven in the game.
Katie Mcbride through seven innings to pick up her thirteenth victory of the season, scattering six hits and allowing one earned run, walking one and striking out four.
The win was the Vikings 20th on the season, making is six years in a row the Vikings have tallied at least 20 wins in a season.
Game two was all Vikings. Valley City State batted around and scored 8 runs in the bottom of the second and held it there to secure the mercy shortened five inning win. Jane Pettit and Savannah McMillin each went two for three and collected two RBI each. All four hits for the pair were doubles. Boychuk also collected two more hits in the game.
In the circle, Jen Shadlock picked up her second victory in as many outings allowing six hits and walking and striking out one. The win was Shadlock’s eighth of the season, a career high.
With the sweep the Vikings jump to 21-18 overall and finish the DAC season 5-7. Valley City State hosts two NCAA Division II universities this week. UM-Crookston on Tuesday and Bemidji State University on Wednesday. Game times on Tuesday are 3 and 5 pm.
On Wednesday, the Vikings will honor seniors Jane Pettit, Cyndi Figol, Jen Shadlock, Sara Gullickson, Emma Nelson and Katie McBride.
