N.D. (AP) – A state investigator has testified that when he told Daniel Wacht the severed head of missing North Dakota State University researcher Kurt Johnson had been dug up in Wacht’s basement, Wacht’s face turned red and he sunk down in his chair.

The 31-year-old Wacht is accused of shooting and decapitating Johnson, who was last seen alive in Cooperstown on New Year’s Eve 2010. Johnson’s severed head was found in a crawl space in Wacht’s basement. His body has not been found.

North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation Special Agent Arnie Rummel testified Thursday in Wacht’s trial.

The Forum newspaper reports that Rummel said investigators could not corroborate Wacht’s claim that he dropped Johnson off at a bar the night Johnson disappeared.
