(Letvin) Hystad, 80, formerly of Jamestown, ND, passed away Friday, April 14th at the Milbank Area Hospital, Milbank, SD. The past 2 years she had resided at the Park Place Assisted Living Center of Milbank. Funeral services will be at Oak Valley Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 18th at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be at the North Prairie Cemetery in Simcoe, ND. There will be a memorial service at the Williams – Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, N.D. on Tuesday, April 17th at 7 p.m. with visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Alvina was born to Daniel and Anne (Moseanko) Letvin on September 17, 1931 on her parents’ farm near Kief, N.D. She graduated from McClusky High School. After graduation Alvina taught in a one room school house for the next three years.
She held numerous jobs throughout her life, significantly as a bookkeeper for Don’s House of Flowers and secretarial assistant for the N.D. American Legion Auxiliary.
She was united in marriage with Brian Hystad in Velva, N.D. on June 5th, 1955. During their life together, Brian’s work took them to Stanton, Bismarck, and finally Jamestown, N.D. Alvina was blessed with great friends where ever she lived. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing bridge and watching all sports, although her greatest enjoyment was her family and friends, especially her 4 grandchildren. She is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, David and Karen Hystad, Milbank, S.D. and Daniel and Carol Hystad of LeMars, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; Alyssa (Hystad) McGuire, Britta Hystad, Danielle Hystad and Matthew Hystad. She was preceded in death by her husband Brian, her parents, and 5 brothers; Danny, George, Andrew, Alfred and Daniel.
